Secured by Design

Secured by Design is a police initiative designed to reduce crime by ensuring windows and doors are manufactured and installed to the highest security standards. Focusing on ‘designing out crime’, windows and doors are tested to create high level security standards. The tests are designed to imitate current trends in crime whereby the products are attacked with tools commonly used in burglaries. Window and Door fabricators are increasingly choosing premium hardware and locking systems to ensure that their products meet the required level to achieve accreditation.

PAS 24

To gain PAS 24 accreditation, windows and doors must go through a series of rigorous tests. Fabricators send product samples to a registered testing house where they undergo specialised security testing. Once the product sample has achieved accreditation, the fabricator develops a relationship with the testing house. The testing house then carries out regular checks on the factory to ensure that their processes remain of a high standard. They also periodically test further samples to ensure that quality is consistently maintained.
