A surprise came on Friday as Windows Active in its latest interactive magazine as they revealed that Dekko Window Systems is the company behind the much anticipated Raum range of windows and doors. It appears given a conversation I have had that this was earlier than planned, but there’s nothing like a tech-style leak to get attentions focused! But, as it’s now out there, let’s take a poke around and see what we now know.
Raum
As the advert in the interactive version of Windows Active suggests, Raum is “a collection of high-end aluminium doors designed to offer the very best in style and performance”.
The trend for high-end products has been strong in recent years, with certain parts of the industry moving in a clear direction away from the “value” end of the market, towards the profitable, more premium side. Raum is designed to fit into this area.
This is the full Raum products range:
Definition: Raum
Raum is a German word when translated into English means “area”, which is an indication to the purpose of this new suite of window and door products.
Gleiten
Gleiten bi-folding doors combine high insulation and comfort with maximum transparency and aesthetics.
Terassi
Terassi patio doors are designed to create maximum glazed areas, combined with increased comfort.
Schommel
The Schommel slide and swing is a new generation multi-pane door that enables homeowner to maximise their living space.
Skilgrient
The ultra-slim design of the Skilgrient sliding door creates large transparent surfaces, with a light, sleek and elegant appearance.
So, there is a bi-folding door, a patio door, a sliding door and a swing and slide door. It isn’t clear if there is a difference between the sliding door and patio door options. Patio doors are known by the public as both sliding and French doors, so it will be interesting to see what the difference is between the two when more information is released.
As for the swing and slide door, it sounds very much like New Wave’s own swing and slide door. But again, nothing is confirmed either way in the advert. Either way, all of these door products will be produced in a way specific to Raum. Will it be a brand new system, or will it be a variation of an existing aluminium system? I suspect the latter, but lets wait and see when the official press release comes out.
Exciting times lie ahead for Dekko, and with Raum, the higher end of the window and door sector in the UK gets just a little more diverse.
