I have it on good authority that at some point during this month, it will become mandatory that all new installers must have a NVQ qualification in installation. This I believe is a good thing as it stops anyone with just two arms, two legs and a van becoming a fitters without any regard for skill or talent. It will force those who are good to get the qualifications, and will improve those who aren’t so good at fitting. All in all, improving the installer stock of the industry.

For those existing installers, as far as I’m aware, I think the period of grace is about 18 months and then all other installers will also have to get these NVQ qualifications too. So at some point within the next 2-3 years, the plan is to have all fitters NVQ qualified. Just think of how much help that will give the industry to try and shake the cowboy reputation off!

The fact remains however, that businesses are still operating in difficult trading conditions. The market is better than expected for this year,  but still has some way to go to get back to the boom years. So, when there is something required and you can get it for free, then you should!

The Fenestration College, which you have probably seen by now is advertising on my site, provides FREE NVQ qualifications for your installers. Their expert staff give support throughout all parts of the course and work to times that best suit you and your installers. Having used them ourselves as a business and signed our installers up for their free qualification courses, I have only praise for them. They worked around us, were friendly and obliging, explained everything simply and listed the advantages that their NVQ’s would bring.

The NVQ’s also qualify your company into becoming Green Deal qualified installers. For more information please contact @f3nsa on Twitter or call 07553370770 and ask for Andy Clegg!
