I don’t care what the doubters say, doors can be sexy! Since my last post showing some of the bespoke doors we have done, we have sold and fitted a bunch more. So, not much reading to do with this one!
Sprayed burnt orange door in traditional door style. Part of a brand new front porch.
Different view of the Burnt Orange door. The whole structure, including the new grey tiles roof, was done by ourselves. Customer was very happy.
We love this style of composite door. This is a Milano Anthracite Grey door and composite side light with Yale Keyfree door handle.

Sprayed jet black “engineered” door. Triple glazed bevelled unit to top – triple glazed for bevel protection and NOT upgraded thermal performance I might add ;-) heavy duty solid chrome door pull and door knocker.
And this is the infamous gold/yellow door I have been bleating about! I have not seen it in the flesh, but it actually looks better than I thought it would. The customer is very pleased with the finished article.
This is a different view. It took nearly 3 months to get this design to replicate the look of their old door and side lights as close as possible. We event copied the existing glass designs from the door, top lights and side lights into new triple glazed units. I think we did a pretty good job!
As each month passes we seem to be quoting funkier and funkier door designs and colour combinations. I am currently quoting one of the most unique doors I have ever designed right now. Be assured that if it turns into an order I’ll show you all what it is!
Entrance doors now are becoming a very competitive art form now. It seems installations companies are trying their very best to come up with the weirdest and artiest new front door. And what a good thing that is for the industry! We don’t want drab and dreary. We want to be competing to help inspire homeowners to go for something unique for their home. Around our local area, we have become known for being able to produce excellent one-offs like this yellow door above. And once people know they can get this creative with it, it quickly catches on.

I totally agree with you – we should be looking at providing what the customer desires – not what is easiest for us to sell. At the end of they day we all have different tastes and requirements – working with the customer to fulfil them is what I find most satisfying and enjoyable about my job.
Bless, apart from the fact I don’t get that the styles suit the buildings in my opinion , the fact of the matter is that reds and yellows are not colour stable to any real degree. As a matter of thoroughness , as I believe you have that trait, I would love you to visit these doors every year with a sample of the original colour supplied and just check on its accuracy to it. That’s different :-) Finishing standards look high. I can see why your customers would be very pleased with the results, particularly the yellow door and orange porch.Striking and different to the average. Well done. I’d also worry about colour steadfastness to be honest though. So many composites out there fading badly after 2-3 years. I know standards vary, but colours fade in plastics and paint. I’m a fan of these doors that you post pictures of, I don’t think i’d have one as I prefer composites but they really do look special. They are probably more for people wanting to replicate the look of a traditional timber door rather then for a standard house I guess?
To revisit the issue, pick up on ESG’s comments and to sound just as negative as normal ;) , the construction of these doors is one I avoid if at all possible , mechanical jointed multiple mullions and transoms in the door leaf is very awkward to keep square, I can see a few service calls on those . The other thing of interest is bunches of keys , I would advise your customers to have the front door key on its own , with a small leather/cloth fob (if anything) . Hi Kevin Thanks for all your comments of late. Much appreciated. We have been selling doors like this for many years. It is only recently that colour has started to take off. But as far as the construction of these doors goes, they have been very reliable for us. Our installers have no problems in fitting them square, and to be honest, of all the products we fit, these have been the most reliable. Very few service calls. As for durability of the product and spray finish itself, we have been fitting these sorts of doors for 8 years now.… Read more »
